About the ADHD Assessment

This screening tool is based on the **Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-5)**, a widely recognized instrument used by healthcare professionals to screen for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adults.

DSM-5 Criteria

The ASRS-5 was developed to align with the diagnostic criteria for ADHD in the **DSM-5**. It focuses on the core symptoms of adult ADHD:

  • Inattention: Difficulty sustaining focus, disorganization, and forgetfulness.
  • Hyperactivity & Impulsivity: Restlessness, excessive talking, and difficulty waiting one's turn.

The ASRS-5 Tool

The ASRS-5 is a short, 6-question screening scale that has been validated to have high sensitivity and specificity for detecting adult ADHD.

  • Efficiency: It focuses on the most predictive symptoms of ADHD in adults.
  • Validation: Research shows that scoring highly on these 6 items is strongly correlated with a clinical diagnosis of ADHD.

Important Note

This tool is a screener, not a diagnostic test. Many other conditions (like anxiety, depression, or sleep disorders) can mimic ADHD symptoms. A comprehensive evaluation by a psychiatrist or psychologist is necessary for an accurate diagnosis.
